Music-theme groom’s cake

October 23, 2010

Hi all!

So now that the day has arrived, we can finally unveil our latest project: a music-theme groom’s cake made for our friends AJ and Brianne!  The happy couple are celebrating their wedding tomorrow, October 24th, 2010 but this cake was made as a surprise for AJ from Brianne for their rehearsal dinner tonight.  AJ is a music teacher at our school, so Brianne, the kindergarten teacher, wanted us to make a cake just for him that reflected his love of music.

The staff lines on the cake were drawn by hand and were quite a challenge (tip:  don’t try working on something that tedious after a long day at work, dealing with kids, and when it is about 9 o’clock at night on that same day).

The music notes were made of fondant and posed a big challenge for Meghan since black fondant tends to dry out fast; she had to work quickly and make them over several times.

The bride and groom are made of modeling chocolate and “dressed” in fondant.  (Have you ever tried putting a fondant tuxedo on a figure?  It’s very difficult!)

The inside of the cake was red velvet with cream cheese buttercream filling, always a crowd favorite, so we hope they enjoyed their cake and have a fabulous wedding day.  Congrats, Brianna & AJ! xoxox

Happy baking!

Christina & Meghan
