Rutgers and hair fashionista cakes!

March 27, 2010

This past week has been a busy cake week for us!

First, we made a cake for our friend Molly’s sister, Julie, who finished defending her thesis from Rutgers in Social Psychology.  The cake was in the Rutgers colors (red and white) and featured the Rutgers emblem as well as symbols that represented Dr. Julie’s research:  male, female, good, bad, science, and English (writing).  It was fun to make as well as an honor to have been asked to do it!

Next, we created a gorgeous cake for Meghan’s mom’s salon, The Guillotine, located in nearby Westfield, which is hosting a benefit for the victims of the Haiti earthquake tonight.  We went with a cake we fell in love with from the Lucks catalog.  It was the perfect cake for a salon:  graphic black and white of a woman…we called it the hair fashionista!  We added our own flowers and splashes of red to really make the black and white pop.  The final result was absolutely stunning!!!

We are exhausted but pleased with the final results on both cakes!  Next week?  A Yankee jersey cake for a 30th birthday and a masculine 55th birthday cake too.  Oh, and I need to find time to make a cake for my hubby’s 37th birthday too!  Phew!

Happy baking!

Christina & Meghan

This is the topper for the cake, made of gumpaste.

Meghan working on her part of the hair fashionista image! We completely free-hand painted the image, giving her red lips to make it pop!
