One of our favorite cake decorators on TLC’s “Ultimate Cake Off”

March 3, 2010

Anne Heap, owner of “The Pink Cake Box” in Denville, NJ, was recently featured on an episode of TLC’s “Ultimate Cake Off” which premiered on Monday, March 1st (check your local listings for reruns).  This episode was a real treat because it also featured cake veterans Colette Peters of “Colette’s Cakes” in NYC and Norman R. Davis of “The Sweet Life” in Virginia.

For those of you who don’t know what the “Ultimate Cake Off” is, it is a cake challenge in which contestants are asked to create a cake for a particular theme in a set amount of time.  The grand prize is $10,000 and, of course, the glory of the win.  It is similar to the “Food Network Challenge“, if you have ever watched that.

Anne Heap and her team competed in a previous “Ultimate Cake Off” back in the fall when their challenge was to create a Legoland birthday cake.  Their creation was amazing and won them the $10,000 prize.  This is what their cake looked like – amazing!

Happy Birthday Legoland 10th Anniversary Cake

Anne Heap is our favorite cake decorator, being young and located in New Jersey. However, in this recent TLC challenge (to create a cake for the 75th anniversary of the Griffith Observatory in California in just 9 hours), it was clear that when pitched against the veterans like Colette and Norman, Anne and her team didn’t stand a chance.  As you can see below, “The Pink Cake Box” team’s work was as beautiful as always but lacked the grandeur of the other two teams (we don’t have any pics of those cakes – sorry).

Hi Joanne! It depends on where you live in NJ. Sweet n’ Fancy in Cranford offers classes; check their site for a schedule. If you join a group like NJ Cake Decorators Club, then you can always have access to classes being offered in the NJ. If you are up to a trip into Manhattan, NY Cake also offers great classes. Hope that helps. Let us know if you need more info, and we will certainly do our best to search something out for you! πŸ™‚
